DISCOID COCKROACHES

(Blaberus discoidalis)

Discoid roaches were only approved for import into Canada at the beginning of 2022, but broadly speaking, they have been in use pretty much since people began keeping reptiles in captivity. This is because they are fantastic feeder species: they do NOT climb or fly, grow to a decent size, are quiet, have a great nutritional profile, are long-lived, and easy to keep & breed.

One of the few drawbacks to discoid roaches is how slow they are to grow and reach maturity, taking an average of 3.5 months of growth before they reach adulthood and start breeding. Purebred discoid typically mature faster and have greater fertility than most hybridized stock. Regardless, it is a long maturation period, and it can take a while to get a colony established. Once they are however, these roaches are steady breeders and will quickly become your favorite feeders.
